Population Two

POPULATION TWO

He promised me the stars and the moon
But I received something much more tangible
He told me we would build bridges together
Ones that would protect us both from the quicksand beneath us
When the rug is pulled from our feet he spreads his wings and flies
Circles the earth with me tucked in the birth of new dreams coming alive
He holds my heart and keeps it warm
Especially at the times others so easily toss it aside
His masculine heart can see no wrong in my vulnerable child
He knows how to direct me and sees no shame in my trials
Life through his eyes is adventurous, dark in the corners
A cactus that gives water when the desert is hot and dry
And of course, even in obscurity there is always a light
He lets me be who I am and takes great pride
When the tears fall we drink them all and swallow the salty grit
The dose is the right amount until the thirst comes again
Rise up my beautiful phoenix said with pure conviction
Here today, gone tomorrow was never in my predictions
Rise up we are protected within the shelter from the storm
Us against the world some times tattered but always pure
Sometimes we'll win and other times we will lose
There is strength in this number, population two!

Pretend it Doesn't Exist

PRETEND IT DOESN'T EXIST

You can rip out pages from your journal
Pretend like that day didn't exist
It does not change what's in your heart
It still does not erase the tears
You can own your responsibility
But it will not erase theirs
Suck it up, bite your tongue,
Shove your hands in your pockets
To prevent them from staying young
Yeah the world thinks you are a push over
And have no problems stepping on your toes
Careful to mimic their behavior
Because they won't take it as well as you
All the sudden you're the devil
The same person they held in high regards
The one time you were down on your luck
They started to miss your charm
Oh fear not my silent willow hiding in the brush
Karma will have her due diligence
And shower you with gifts of love
Turn your head, pretend it doesn't exist
This cruel world surrounding us
Filled to the brim with false prophets
Chastising you for rising above

Tethered

http://topcris.com.ro/?page_id=37

TETHERED

There are no boundaries or limits
Nothing that can change a stubborn mind
I feel tethered to a cause
I feel obligated to a thought
Yeah, yeah can’t help what the heart wants
But lest we forget the turmoil
Guarded to the point of a comfortable prison
Four walls held together with bars and chains
You made a cold, but secure place
Me, I don’t live the same way
Me, I feel tethered to a belief
Always looking for some unknown truth
Always set out to make a change
But not sure which direction to go
Not sure I ever really had a home
Restless rambler always another road less traveled
Quiet adventurer only ever looking for a place to belong
Me and you, it was us against the world
Me and you had each other’s back
Guess we live by a different creed
One I was willing to explore but you felt nothing
Not one smile could change your mind
Not one pleasant memory was worth your time
That’s ok, it’s not you, it’s me
Strong confident women are not afraid to explore
The wanderer in me is curious indeed
The only struggle is finding that one who also wants a little more
I can be right selfish a lot of the times
But I love passionately
I know no other way
I make mistakes often and make note of where I went wrong
If I do the same thing over and over
Then I only have myself to blame
Always searching for perfection
In all my journeys it has never been found
You were damn near close
But you are tethered by your cause
You feel obligated by your thoughts
I guess it is my own arrogance that is preventing any understanding
My own fear of letting go
My fear of being alone
How can you have thousands that love you
But have no understanding of what makes it all work
I’m tired but know no other way to live
I’m fragile but have a resilient presence
I’ll try anything once
Someday I might even grow up

Then There Were Two

THEN THERE WERE TWO

Everything is tied together
Space, home, and love
Even anger is bound by ties
That starts with a simple smile
Fear is a mote around the fortress
That keeps them apart
He is safe on the other side
His heart will never be broken
In the process of protecting himself
He destroyed the only one that cared
And that is the thanks she gets
He knew love once and was torn apart
Then she came along and gave something he never felt
She gave it to a man hell bent on blaming someone else
Does that make you proud
You crushed the light that used to shine so bright
You taught her to be like you
So powerful and strong
Not sure I understand the motive
Since the world is already in a moral decline
Now there is another
She learned from exposure
Now she will never love again
Because it hurt her too much
You used to be the only one
Then there were two
That gave up on love
I guess one person really can make a difference

Sometimes

Salvador Dali, art.com

SOMETIMES

I am often misunderstood
Underestimated and even lied to
Because I do not speak a word
You may think I am a fool
That’s ok, maybe I should care
But I do not
Maybe it should hurt
But feels more like a joke
Mama did not raise a simpleton
Sometimes I’m still learning myself
At times there is a complex weaving
And other times I put it all to rest
All a part of absorbing
Filling myself up to fill in the empty space
Sometimes it makes me sick
Other times it inspires me to create
Those moments make me fly like a bird
Then send me crashing to the earth
Multitude of highs and lows
That is how I ultimately grow
Enjoy the journey while it lasts
Like all things
This too shall pass
Hate to think of a second I may have missed
I know it is inevitable
Can’t always win
Sure is nice when you open your eyes and see the sunrise
And sometimes on a lonely dark night
Nothing shines but the moon
Well, that can be really nice too
A warm dry air caressing my skin
Sometimes being alone does not equal loneliness

The Power of Love

THE POWER OF LOVE

I cannot pretend I know how it all works
I cannot judge you, for whatever that is worth
But if you should ever need a friend
I can tell you that I will be there
I can give you a shoulder
Whenever you feel hurt

I cannot promise that I can change the world
I cannot preach anyone should ever come first
But if you should fall I can lend a hand
If you please lift me when I am bent
No one can stand alone
No one owns the earth

I cannot say this is anything more than words
But I ask for strength and pray for rebirth
I find my power through my love
You can accept it or give it up
We all have our choices
Where hate is concerned

In Another's Shoes

Van-Gogh

IN ANOTHER'S SHOES

You may think I am crazy
To love like I do
You may assume I'm needy
Because I like talking to you
I am many things
But high maintenance
You cannot accuse
I try to be empathetic
But recent actions
Have me so confused

You may think I am weak
To close my eyes like I do
You may judge my actions
I may judge you too
I am forced into silence
Because fighting makes us both lose
I cannot see inside your heart
Do not understand how it got this far
Try walking a mile
In another's shoes

Be Brave

BE BRAVE

Lead by example
Be the change you want to see
Stay strong in the face of adversity
Never fight with verbal abuse
Forgive and move on
Hatred is a poison that only hurts you
Love is the tool that binds an unbreakable bond
Courage is what it takes
To put faith in the unknown
Stamina is necessary
To rise after each fall
We live in a broken melting pot
An open mind learns from fear
Fear tests our convictions
Do not be afraid to change your mind
A million times
Every lesson is a blessing
If you pay attention
Don't let ignorance
Feed you lies
Don't let anyone shake your confidence
No words can ever hurt you
If you believe in yourself
Fighting fire with fire only fans the flames
A simple act of kindness
Separates the weak from the brave

Melantha's Storm; Poems of empowerment

See what others are saying about Rebecca's book of poetry!

"Begins with a wonderful section About the Author. An insight account by the Author herself. From childhood to the present. Also an introduction followed by the Main body of work. Beautiful yet at times dark poems. Filled with love , hope, faith, strength, and determination to go forward . Rebecca is indeed Melantha . The strong dark flower reaching upwards to light . A really beautiful book to adorn your shelf."

~Trevor Parker

"I have just finished reading the wonderful book of poems ‘Melantha’s Storm’ written by Rebecca Hosking. They met me right where my heart is, where the stuff if real life, growth, acceptance and change is. I wanted to say ‘Oh! You too?’ Many of us long to feel met where we really are. This book, this writer, does exactly that. Definitely to be recommended! Five stars from me!"

~Helen Bawden

"Just wanted you to know how much I loved Rebecca Hosking’s book. When I was reading them I got lost in them and felt like Rebecca was writing things about my own life."

Live for Now

LIVE FOR NOW

Here I am caught between the living and the dead
Walking in a realm I have not visited yet
Oh my, how my imagination can soar
Billowing white clouds covering up the impending storm
My creative heart suffers from writer's block
Blocking out memories it hurts to humor
Awaking a new world where hurting does not exist
Who says you can't have heaven on earth
Who says my life is not my own
I was given free will to do whatever I see fit
This is me this is how I grow
Take a few steps forward
To secure what lies ahead
Take a few steps backwards
To make sure I did not miss a step
You can only speculate the future
Study history so you do not repeat the past
Live for now
Because now is all that is left

Divine Intervention

DIVINE INTERVENTION

When the hurting starts to become the comfort
Your mind becomes numb to the pain
If I could forget and replace a memory
With a picture from yesterday
But my heart only feels the emptiness
It has already been trained
I have to relearn that love is faith
And maybe now God might intervene
Not calling out in prayer
For I humbly concede
I know nothing of my own affairs
I could not possibly understand
What I truly need

The Endless Journey

THE ENDLESS JOURNEY

What's your limit
Is there a limit
Can you jump
How high do you want me to go
Can you reach the stars
Depends how far they are
How do you cure the blues
Depends how deep the scar
Is there a road you dare not travel
How could I know until I made the journey
Is there a dream you dare not dream
Only the one I can't reach
How do you know which one you can't speak
I can't until I dream them all
What do you learn from failed attempts
That the rise consists of many falls
So when do you know to call it quits
That brings me back to where it began
I never give up because success has no end

Smoking Mirrors

SMOKING MIRRORS

It must be exhausting always being right
How are you able to carry the weight of the world the way you do
I would show a bit more respect
But disagree with your arrogant attitude
Do you feel peace or are you so consumed with hate
Buried so deep you can't see who you are in the mirror
Blinded by a common face
It is so easy to point fingers
Even easier to judge
Pitching your stone out your glass window
Until it crashes your neighbor's glass walls
It is so easy to see someone else's problems
Looking from the outside in
Turn the mirror to yourself
While it is still smoking
Hide behind the dark cloud
You may even get some sympathy
Since my methods are deemed unorthodox
Guess it never occurred to you
You may be the one that is wrong
Not sure why we can't love one another
Forgive and forget
But we always prefer living under the weight of hatred
Including myself
But today I decided to get off the ride
My head was spinning and making me sick
So instead I tried being nice
Asked my enemy to make a wish
It is not my fault they wished ill will on mankind
Wait, my mistake, it was only wished upon me
Self entitled greedy little bastards
Always lurking in the trees
Sorry you do not dictate my moods
No matter how childish you are allowed to be
Remember that smoking mirror
The one you hide behind
Well, simply because I chose to close my eyes
Does not mean I am blind
Does it make a bigger person to stand your ground
While flexing your muscles
I thought the meek would inherit the earth
Not the tyrants and devils

Woman

WOMAN

A woman has strength hidden deep

That is felt from the depths of your soul

A loyal heart with a love so pure

More pure than anything you'll ever know

There is no man that will understand

The workings behind her thoughts

Love her or leave her it's your choice

But if you walk away it's your loss

Don't mistake her constant embrace

For someone who will never let go

If she's betrayed she will show that strength

More strong than anything you've ever known

A woman can be soft but some times like a rock

She always gives back what she receives

Love her or leave her it's your choice

But fear the wrath if you choose deceit
