POPULATION TWO
He promised me the stars and the moon
But I received something much more
tangible
He told me we would build bridges
together
Ones that would protect us both from
the quicksand beneath us
When the rug is pulled from our feet he
spreads his wings and flies
Circles the earth with me tucked in the
birth of new dreams coming alive
He holds my heart and keeps it warm
Especially at the times others so
easily toss it aside
His masculine heart can see no wrong in
my vulnerable child
He knows how to direct me and sees no
shame in my trials
Life through his eyes is adventurous,
dark in the corners
A cactus that gives water when the desert is hot and dry
And of course, even in obscurity there
is always a light
He lets me be who I am and takes great
pride
When the tears fall we drink them all
and swallow the salty grit
The dose is the right amount until the
thirst comes again
Rise up my beautiful phoenix said with
pure conviction
Here today, gone tomorrow was never in
my predictions
Rise up we are protected within the
shelter from the storm
Us against the world some times
tattered but always pure
Sometimes we'll win and other times we
will lose
There is strength in this number,
population two!
